Introduction

Is usability really so
important that it has its own world day? Remember all the things you have
seen and tried that weren t usable (or useful)? Remember all the websites
you ve visited (and departed) that weren t usable? This introductory
presentation will explain how the IE Lab team works on improving information
experience through better website usability.

Expert Review

Xin Wang & Jiazhen Wang, IE Lab Coordinators

In this session, we will introduce the usability method of Expert
Review. In an expert review, usability
specialists evaluate a web site following established usability principles,
known as heuristics. We will explain our expert review process and further
explain the main criteria in the heuristics checklist. Additionally, we ll cover
a case study from a previous IE Lab project.

Time on Task

Time on task is one of the major variables to judge usability of information systems. The session will focus on the tricks and tips on how Morae could be used to measure time on task with different usability testing methods, starting from think aloud to individual and group task analysis.

The presentation will introduce to the audience the
focus group technique that is used in usability studies. It will cover the
different approaches that have been used with focus groups as a tool for
evaluation; technology that can be used to support the technique and the best
practices of the technique.
