What will the day involve? Featuring a range of fun and interesting activities, this year's theme is communication. We will explore the fascinating usability issues associated with social networking sites, collaboration tools and communication devices. All afternoon we’ll be running various activities including interactive demonstrations, live usability and accessibility tests and workshops.
You’ll also be among the first to try out the revolutionary interactive Smart Table and road test the latest eye tracking glasses from Tobii.
- Do different communication mediums affect our information recall?:; Read a short news story from paper, web and mobile channels to find out if the medium affects how well you recall information.
- Does video calling provide a richer form of communication?:; You can help us judge whether or not video calling allows you to pick up more from a conversation than voice calling.
- Who can access your content on Facebook?:; Share your own experiences of controlling Facebook privacy and see if you can correctly set the privacy settings of a Facebook account
- Eye tracking of advertisements on the iPad using Tobii Glasses:; Using this new eye tracking technology we will investigate the user experience of different Twitter applications. Come along and make your own mind up about the iPad and see the outputs from the eye tracking glasses.
- How accessible are mobile devices?:; A blind user will demonstrate the use of ’Talks’, a screen-reading software for mobile phones and we will also look at other alternative communication devices used by disabled users.
- Has mobile phone usability evolved with the technology?:; Our phones have become smarter but are they easier to use? You can test whether or not the latest smart phones offer an easier, more usable experience than the older generations of mobile phone.
- How usable is collaborative software?:; Try out some simple tasks including content creation and editing to help us compare the user experience of various online collaborative tools.
