Event Details

This year, the theme of World Usability Day is Transportation, and the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society - South Jersey Chapter is sponsoring a "design slam" contest. Students at Egg Harbor Township High School involved in computer science courses will form teams, and each team will select a problem from a set of human factors design challenges related to transportation in their community. The goal of the project is to come up with the best design solution for the problem. The solution could be the design of a user interface, a computer interface, or any other creative solution to the problem. Each team will need to write a paper or give a presentation describing their solution. The paper or presentation should describe how their design solution takes the user into consideration, how they arrived at their solution, and what other alternatives they considered before settling on the final design. All participants will receive a frameable certificate recognizing their participation. Winners will be given gift certificates, and will also be invited (along with interested teachers and parents) to present their designs at a meeting of the South Jersey chapter of the Human Factors & Ergonomics Society. They will also be given a tour of the Human Factors Laboratory (http://hf.tc.faa.gov ) at the FAA's William J Hughes Technical Center.
