WORLD USABILITY DAY
Event at Nottingham University's Jubilee Campus
14 Nov 2006, 1.30 pm-5.00 pm
"Usability - different applications; a common purpose"
Have you ever been frustrated with a product that was hard to use or a website where you could not find what you wanted? Have you found yourself wading through too many menus on an automated telephone answering system? Why do companies find it so difficult to make their devices and systems easy to use?
This event, to be held at Nottingham University will introduce you to the topic of ‘usability' and show how basic usability principles can be applied successfully to many different applications. The event is open to the public but should be of special interest to students of computer science, human factors, design, engineering and ergonomics. It will also be relevant to companies producing interactive products and systems with end users in mind.
Speakers:
Introduction and Chair, Sarah Sharples, Institute for Occupational Ergonomics
Claire Williams, Hon. Gen. Sec. of the Ergonomics Society, "Usability - An introduction"
David Travis, Userfocus Ltd, London, "What Farmer Buckley's exploding trousers can tell us about web usability"
Dave Roberts, IBM User Experience Design Centre, Warwick, "Access for All"
Steve Benford, Prof in Computer Science, University of Nottingham, "Designing Mobile Experiences"
