November 13, 2008 - Get Involved!
World Usability Day (WUD) was founded to ensure the services and products important to life are easier to access and simpler to use. Our focus this year is transportation.
The fourth annual World Usability Day is off to an exciting start. The Usability Professionals’ Association (UPA) is coordinating more than 36 hours of activities in over 40 countries around the world on November 13, 2008. Your involvement is integral to the success of this global initiative.
How your efforts with World Usability Day made an impact in 2007:
- 180 events, 175 cities, 41 countries
- 40,000 people at events worldwide
- Thousands of online participants
- Extensive worldwide media coverage
As part of our focus on transportation in 2008 we will be addressing these questions and more:
How has transportation impacted our culture and society? What are the opportunities and constraints for our society?
- How do humans interact with the following aspects of transportation:
- Modes – automobiles, planes, trains and subways, boats, trucks, busses, bikes, animals, and more.
- Infrastructure – roads, highways, bridges, tunnels, and more.
- Technologies and resources supporting transportation – online travel advisory and ticketing, maps and more.
- Security
- Signage
- How do the modes interact with each other?
- How is our environment impacted by transportation modes and issues?
- How have accessibility issues and challenges been addressed by transportation?
We look forward to working closely with you over the next several months as we organize and promote this important initiative. We hope you will give us your input, share your experiences and encourage your colleagues and friends to be part of our team. We are organizing our WUD global team and sponsors now.
