Moving beyond ROI: UCD as a catalyst for organizational change
Presented by Emma J. Rose
When we practice user-centered design, we’re not just changing the way products are designed but often we’re also trying to change the way our organizations think and work. As UCD practioners, we often struggle to bring about deeper change and make our organizations more user-centered. This talk, presented by Emma J. Rose, will share results from a workshop that she and others conducted at UPA 2007 that focused on this very challenge. In continuing the dialogue with the UCD community, she’ll share the findings from this workshop, provide a framework for exploring organizational change, and expand on these concepts and challenges.
Ultrasound at the Point-of-Care: The evolution and usefulness of a portable system
Presented by Jason Fouts
Traditionally, ultrasound has been the specialty of radiology and echo techs in large hospitals. Expense, as well as, the complexity of the user interface has required people to have extensive knowledge and training about ultrasound before using it, which has inhibited its growth into new areas of the medical field. SonoSite, is working to break this paradigm by providing high-quality point-of-care ultrasound into markets where ultrasound is not traditionally used, such as regional anesthesiology and emergency medicine. This presentation will focus on the changing face of users and how their evolving needs are being met. Case studies will be provided to demonstrate how the product’s usefulness has expanded to provide better healthcare for patients worldwide.
