Event Details

Tucson World Usability Day at IBM will include a variety of hands-on acitivities, highlighting both the successes and challenges of usability in hardware, software, and everyday items.

There will be opportunities to tour IBM's new, state-of-the-art usability lab, and to see demonstrations of usability principles from both sides of the mirror.  We'll be hooking into other IBM sites to learn about remote usability testing, as well. Come learn about the tools of usability in a fun and interactive format. There will be giveaway items for all attendees. Some activities include:

  • Paper Prototyping – A fun prototyping exercise that uses a stovetop as an example of designing for natural mapping and cultural standards.
  • Lego Workshop – This is an out-of-the-box exercise that emphasizes the importance of creating clear, concise instructions, and packaging products in a logical way.
  • Create Accessible Web Sites – Use assistive technologies to test the usability of web sites and create an initial design for a more accessible version.
  • Develop Personas – Get in the mind of target users by developing user profiles for a portable media device.
  • Fun with cell phones – Run-through typical scenarios using several models of cell phones and evaluate them for ease-of-use.
  • There will also be a collection of IBM storage prototypes on display.

The highlight of the interactive event is a class of high school students that will participate as part of a field trip from 1:00-2:30 MT.

Members of the local community and fellow colleagues are welcome to attend.
