Aaron Marcus, a world-renowned usability/design expert, President of Aaron Marcus and Associates and Editor-in-Chief of UPA’s User Experience, explained in a Webinar available worldwide how different cultures are affected by the design of products and services, using examples from Websites around the world.
Ben Shneiderman's talk in
Universidad Politecnica de Madrid presented a variety of information visualization tools, including some important commercial successess. These tools were developed after ideas created in the
Human-Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL) at the
University of Maryland, and the demos transmitted the audience the inspirational character of
Shneiderman's work.
Nationwide held two events: (1) an informal booth with surveys, usable products, and volunteers answering questions about usability; (2) a formal event with a panel discussion from Nationwide managers and officers who are proponents of usability and a demonstration of a usability test
Nearly 250 attendees which included local User Experience practitioners, members of the resident academic community, visitors from other cities and invited guests, converged at the offices of Blue Cross Blue Shield of IL in downtown Chicago. An afternoon seminar collected UI designers, usability experts and other interested people together to discuss usability engineering.
With 130 people attending this year, Sofia, Bulgaria doubled and tripled the attendance from 2005. "Slowly usability is entering the world, minds, and vocabulary of people in Bulgaria," Dimiter Simov observes.
On Nov 14, Oracle UX hosted World Usability Day in Bangalore with participation from over 120 professionals representing other technology companies, design houses, Indian academia in HCI and Design, and enthusiasts. An event cooperatively organized by University Paul Verlaine, the town of Metz, and the Regional Council of Lorraine.
This year World Usability Day was celebrated at the old arts-and-crafts school, which belongs to the University of Applied Sciences in Magdeburg. The event lived up to its title, “Adventure Usability," thanks to the orators, vernissage, design products and photo exhibition.
“It Ain’t Working” encouraged people to show what’s hard to use.
This year's Melbourne event was held at the offices of Sensis, an Australian company
with a very active interaction and design team.
The WUP seminar focused on ‘the scent of information’ and in particular looked at developing user focused information architectures. Videos of users on various sites were shown to illustrate how users find information and the problems they encounter. Then a method of developing usable information architectures was demonstrated (card sorting using Syncaps cluster analysis software). The results of this type or work was illustrated with examples of WUP clients improved sites.
The User Experience Alliance (UXA) marked WUD by conducting the world’s first 36 hour global expert review on leading products, including cell phones and Web sites. Participants included UXA members and affiliates from the following countries: Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Sweden, the UK and the US.
Five teams played Click H.I.T by taking digital pictures, which best represent something USABLE or NOT USABLE by using a digital cam or a mobile phone. Each team choose the best five pictures representations of real world/ virtual world usability-fun artifacts, product, or experiences. Each picture included a tag and a short explanation on the usability-fun aspects which made the team Click H.I.T!
World Usability Day in India is the only Usability conference of its kind held in this part of the subcontinent. UsabilityMatters.Org has been hosting this event every year to growing popularity amongst the designer and design sensitive community. Boycott Bad Designs and International cartoon contests have been hosted to mark the day.
After last year’s tremendous success Human Interface Group again organizes the World Usability Day in Belgium to promote every user’s right for better working technology. The event draws a large audience and is covered by Belgian national TV and radio.
Prof. Jan Borchers, head of the Media Computing Group at RWTH Aachen University, has been an advocate of promoting usability and user-centered design for many years. During a seminar at the University, Dr. Borchers offered insights for business practitioners.

System Concepts, a leading usability consultancy, hosted a free Introduction to User Centred Design training course to celebrate World Usability Day. Fifteen participants from twelve organisations ranging from the public sector, charities and blue chip service providers through to digital design agencies attended the one day course in central London.
The K12 UX group invited middle and high school students to come to our office. The students had an opportunity to learn how we create curriculum and participate in engaging activities such as science experiments and online games. Our product development team had a chance to learn more about our users and watch them use our products.
Drs. Heather Richter and Celine Latulipe welcomed UNCC students and faculty as well as usability practitioners from the Charlotte area to the HCI Lab for demonstrations of state-of-the-art ongoing HCI research. This was preceded by a talk and a panel about usability in practice.
Sydney Australia welcomed World Usability Day 2006 at the State Library of NSW. The event included free seminars, demonstrations, interactive activities and poster displays and NEWS.com.au launched and demonstrated the new NEWS Lab.
100 usability practitioners from around the St. Louis area gathered for the second annual St. Louis User Experience Conference to share ideas and “beyond beginner” tactics.
On World Usability Day, a bunch of red-balloon wielding user-experience enthusiasts set off from Vulcan Lane in Auckland to find examples of good and bad user experiences.
On a rainy day, volunteers at the Center for Multimedia Arts raised local awareness with their World Usability Day 2006 event.
On a day that was marked by severe thunderstorms and major traffic congestions in Johannesburg, usability specialists and other like-minded people beat the odds to attend a seminar which focused on the South African usability issues at hand.
More than 130 people were gathered in Oslo to celebrate World Usability Day. Political advisor Jørund Leknes from the Ministry of Government Administration and Reform opened the exhibit saying that WUD is a very admirable initiative and that the event embraces what the governement is trying to achieve.

involved visitors to the Saint
Louis Science Center. The Science Center
recognized that an exhibit about usability would be a perfect fit into its
mission to educate the public about science and technology.
Presentations and Usability Engineering Case Studies highlight the
essence, relevance and value of this multidisciplinary field in today's
complex world. Practitioners from various organizations participated in
this event which was open to all.

World Usability Day was celebrated at Nottingham
University with afternoon seminar on the Jubilee Campus with 4
speakers. The event, jointly organised by the Ergonomics Society and UK
Chapter of the UPA covered ergonomics and usability, design for all,
mixed media games and Farmer Buckley's exploding trousers!
As suggested by its title, the Auburn University “Universal
Usability: From Education to Politics“ one day conference celebrating
the 2006 World Usability Day was a comprehensive professional
event. Six usability and accessibility presentations and one
assistive technology workshop were included on the event agenda.

The poster display held at the University of Canberra, Australia
went successfully wth many attendees mostly from the university
community.
Event Description: The Manila celebration of the World Usability Day
culminated in a seminar series that happened in six locations in Metro
Manila.

Blue Flavor in Seattle for a night of geek conversation, xbox, pizza
and beer to celebrate World Usability Day among their colleagues.
